I teach a wonderful full day kindergarten class for at risk students. One hundred percent of my class is at risk, meaning all of my students come in significantly lower academically than their peers. I teach 23 amazing 5 and 6 year olds full of curiosity, adventure, and life. They bring a smile to my face everyday. I teach at a school in a low to mid socioeconomic background, and many students face challenges at home but come to school excited to learn. Most of my students lack technological and academic exposure because of their home life, resulting in their academic level. We have an amazing school environment full of smiling and encouraging teachers working hard for all our students. Like many schools we lack the funding needed for extra technology and supplies for all students and classrooms.
My Project
Technology is something most of use on a daily basis, and our school is striving to incorporate more technology for each one of our students. We have made great strides but still need a few things. We were given headphones to use, but unfortunately they do not fit my kindergartners. They are to big and slide off their heads, which is frustrating for them. That is why I am asking for headphones that are just right for kindergartners. This will allow them to fully take advantage of the technology we already have in our school. I have been blessed to receive an iPad last school year which made a huge impact! My kids were able to learn through different programs with hands on materials, which makes learning fun! I am asking for an additional iPad so that more of my students are able to use it at the same time, this will give each of them a greater learning opportunity. They will be able to use both the iPad's during small group time and also during center time where they can work independently. The headphones will also be used with the iPad's. Both the headphones and iPad will significantly increase my student's learning opportunity, and will be a great impact for our classroom.
