Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school prepares students for success at four-year
colleges and competitive careers.
Students have the option to
remain at our school for up to six years and can earn an
Associate Degree at no cost in addition to their CTE (Career & Technical Education)-endorsed high school Regents diploma. In the first four years, students participate in job shadowing, field trips, training seminars, and summer internships. All of our community members are accountable for our five pillars: Scholarship, Creativity, Character, Responsibility, and Empathy. Students are held to high standards and expected to participate in the development of our community. The students come from all five boroughs of NYC from diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions, and nationalities.
My Project
We need magazines and high-interest reading material for this High School Campus Library is a space that has not been open for more than six years. In October 2018, there will be a grand reopening, but we still need many books and periodicals to make the library more robust, interesting, and to help encourage reading for pleasure. Having a broad selection of high-interest, current magazines for young adults and teens is always a feature of the library that will keep students reading, wondering, and coming back for self-discovery and lifelong learning. Support for this project will help full the empty shelves with periodicals for the four high schools in the building, for over 1,000 students in total.
