I teach business and technology to some of the most creative, curious, and innovative students. My goal is to provide tech experiences to our students to promote 21st-century learning and skills with STEAM.
My students are very innovative and creative individuals.
Students in our district often have limited technology experience. My students will begin to discover and cultivate their creativity as they begin to apply their unique gifts and talents and allow them to become the innovators and global leaders of tomorrow with the stories they will be able to create and tell.
My Project
As a Business and Technology Teacher, I have made it a mission to develop my students' learning through engaging PBL, PDSA and Real World Applications. A couple of months ago, I read EDreneline Rush by John Meehan and learned about his "break in" activities for students. The one that caught my eye the most was The Mr. Potato Head PDSA. PDSA was originally developed by David M. Williams PhD who developed the exercise after years of trying to identify an experience that taught PDSA testing, measurement, and collaborative learning.
Instruct the teams to discuss their results and what they learned through doing the exercise.
Ask them to identify the next theory to test and their new predictions and to apply them their learning. My children have outgrown the use of their Mr. Potato Head, so I jumped at the chance to apply this to my marketing class. I was blown away by how much my high school students were so actively engaged in the activity and then applied it to their Marketing Projects. It was so engaging that I applied it to one of my other business classes. After a few laughs, my students once again took the PDSA with their PBL project in my class and turned into into a very engaging project that applied what were were learning for the section. I since then was asked why were do not do more with Mr. Potato Head and I had to reply: "We only have one set." I want to give my students more opportunities with PBL and PDSA by giving them a full Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head STREAM kits. Having these sets will allow more PDSA and PBL lessons that will teach my students business, marketing and entrepreneur practices that are essential to our curriculum.
