My students are a diverse group of beautiful souls. They thrive in an environment that allows them to move and engage with all different types of materials. They come into our classroom eager to learn and eager to be involved. They are all so unique and intelligent in their own ways. Nothing makes me happier than seeing their faces light up when they are able to master things that have truly been challenges!
Many of my students face challenges that most of us will never have to face.
They are creative and fearless, and never back down from any new obstacle that is put in front of them. We incorporate many different strategies and learning options to help them be successful and to make sure their needs are met. They are building the skills necessary to live and thrive in the world after high school and I am thrilled to be a part of their journey.
My Project
Flexible seating will allow our students opportunities for choice-making, as well as providing needed sensory options. They currently have very limited options other than desks or the floor. Making students comfortable while they are learning, while also taking in to account their sensory needs, is key to keeping them engaged and focused. When they are given choices, they are always more motivated to learn.
My students are far less likely to be disruptive if they are allowed to choose where to work.
The items I have selected will give them more seating options and help them in making better learning choices. My high school students will enjoy being able to sit at a bar height table with stools where they can almost feel as though they are working at a cafe. My students with sensory issues will enjoy the swing movement and comfy floor seating options.
I have seen how positively seat choice affects my students' behavior and engagement. I hope that the addition of more seating options will help us to make even more positive gains.
