My Project

Imagine sitting at your desk, counting down the minutes to lunch or remembering you forgot to pack a snack for after-school. This type of thought crosses the minds of students every day across the country, including in my own. I've had variations of the "snack box" or "snack drawer", but it is difficult to do on my own.

Data tells us that students are more focused and successful when they're full and hydrated.

Our school provides breakfast, but many kiddos arrive late or are making up for missing the previous night's meal. I have many students who are involved in various extracurriculars who won't get home until late. Having food items like mini Clif Bars, Cheez-Its, Pop-Tarts, and Ritz sandwich crackers can help my kids get through the day. My school thankfully has an amazing refillable water bottle station, but many of my students do not have a refillable bottle. By being able to offer them a sports water bottle and Gatorade Powder Packs, they can stay fully hydrated throughout the day and after school.

In our science class, students often work in teams and earn rewards of their choosing. One of the favorites is a snack from the drawer or something from "The Jar". Unfortunately, during the classroom move, my jar has gone missing. This project would also allow me to bring back the candy jar tradition! For our kiddos to be successful, they must be focused - to be focused on learning, they must also be full. Thank you!
