My Students

I have an amazing group of students from many different walks of life. My 265 students range from 6th grade to 8th grade, with various linguistical abilities and some of them are from bilingual families.

Most of my students are non-native Spanish speakers, who are just starting to learn Spanish and 60 of my students are native speakers from various Latin American countries.

My non-native speakers are enthusiastic, curious, and actively problem-solving when they are faced with comprehension questions of a story that is completely in the target language. My native Spanish speakers are enthusiastic, fun, curious, and hungry for authentic resources that showcase their Latin American culture, traditions, and values.

My Project

My students in our exploratory Spanish will need a book that is comprehensible at their beginning level. Ratón Pablito is a compilation of small stories about a rat and his adventures. All stories are easily accessible and are have multiple pictures to guide their reader for full comprehension.

With this book, special education students (K-3 level) to 8th-grade beginner students will be able to feel successful when reading their first stories in a foreign language.

Many of Pablito's stories' vocabulary are completely in the present tense, max out at 10 vocabulary words! Repetition of a limited vocabulary and structures help students acquire language naturally.
