I am a pull-out resource teacher in a K-3 primary school in New Jersey.
Our mission is to provide a safe, secure and enriching environment that allows our students and teachers to engage in academics without distraction, in order to meet the highest demand.
My third grade students are an exceptional, energetic bunch with learning difficulties. I give my all everyday to help them learn and achieve to the best of their abilities and help close the achievement gap.
My Project
Students should have choice and options in their learning. One of the ways to help provide this is through flexible seating. Many students have a hard time focusing and working when they are uncomfortable or not receiving the sensory input that they need in order to focus. Often, teachers rely on tangible objects to help students with their focus but in many cases, seating choice is a more effective option.
This project will provide my students with a variety of seating options including wobble stools, bean bags and low chairs to allow them to choose a comfortable place to learn and grow.
With these options, I hope to increase student engagement and participation by drawing their focus away from their comfort level and towards the activities at hand.
