Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our public city elementary school, scholars are intent, happy and focused on listening, learning and following directions. They are lively, smart and enjoy challenges. They need opportunities to be creative, collaborate, learn from experts and showcase their learning. Many of them seldom take risks. They feel a great deal of pressure to succeed and I want to creative stimulating learning opportunities.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center.
As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 17 years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
STEM is in the air. Coding is done every December during the Week of Code in almost every public school. Let's do it all year! The library does not have devices.
We are requesting a Surface Go to use with robots like spheros and ozobots in the school library.
During their free periods, scholars will use the Surface Go to have access to seeing how coding can be applied and what makes a robot move. The robots allow scholars to see exactly what they are doing and how coding can be real and authentic. In real time, scholars can see their mistakes, what works and what doesn't and correct it on the fly. Scholars will be able to simply focus on the task at hand of learning from start to finish, and not whether their coded game is playing.
Additionally, in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology! Please help us create public school, STEMStories! Thank you for your time, consideration and support.
