Mrs. Lane from Salt Lake City UT is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Let's Engineer a Fabulous Science Project

Help me give my students the ability to engineer great Science projects. My students need materials like the Makeblock mBot Robot Kit, and other kits and materials to build a Maglev train to fuel their ideas for the Science Fair competition.

My Students

The population of the students I work with come from high poverty, inner city, diverse backgrounds and limited experiences. Many haven't been exposed to science and crave hands-on experiences in that content area. Our students rarely visit museums or even leave their neighborhood. When lab-like activities are brought into the school, or they when they are given the opportunity to create their own, they barely can contain their excitement.

Students leave their general-ed classroom to receive targeted instruction that challenges them in their core curriculum areas.

My classroom is set up in a pull-out model. I serve 4th, 5th and 6th grade students that meet in small groups. This setting allows students to have time to explore complex content in deep and meaningful ways.

Due to their lack of exposure to science and other STEM activities, my goal is to offer engaging encounters with material that inspires them to learn more. They also crave real world experiences and the ability to solve problems creatively.

My Project

My students love to participate in the Science & Engineering Fair, but struggle to find the materials. I have students interested in Maglev trains and robotics. These materials will stimulate ideas for projects and provide the necessary materials for experimentation.

Solving a problem with engineering is a critical skill.

With the help of these materials, my students will not only learn how to be an engineer, but also learn how to use engineering design to solve the problems of today. These kits will give students the boost they need to connect to real world engineering and give them a launching point for further investigations.
