My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My students are caring, diverse, eager to learn, and very unique. My school's community is very tight-knit and there is genuine pride from alum and current students alike. This will be our last year in the original building before a two-year remodel takes place and we relocate.
I feel lucky every single day that I go to school to teach my students.
I love their energy, their willingness to try new things, and I love seeing the light bulb moments that they discover with a little guidance.
My Project
Teachers from Modern World History, Physics, and English are working together to create a love for reading and bring the freshmen class closer together by bringing the Oregon Battle of the Books to our students.
Students will have the opportunity to read a diverse array of titles as they compete against their peers to win bragging rights for the Class of 2022!
Scythe is an excellent title for those students who love dystopian action and adventure books, Piecing me Together, written by an Oregonian, is a beautiful novel about a young Black woman's journey to loving and appreciating herself, and Burn Baby, Burn is a historical fiction novel set in New York City during the Son of Sam murders. The protagonist, a Latina teenager aching to finish high school and move on with the next part of her life, looks like the murderers' victims, and it is a perfect balance of suspense, humor, friendship, and self-discovery.
With these titles, students and teachers will come together in the spirit of friendly competition while reading books that are high-interest and culturally relevant today.
