Help me give my students the ability to see me write in real time with them or solve a math problem as we discuss the steps using the Graphics Drawing Tablet. The monitor will let me see them!
This is 2020, and, as we have all learned, it is a year that has truly changed the landscape of modern education. The virtual 5th-grade students I serve this year are a diverse group of learners with dynamic personalities and unique cultural experiences. Many of these children are newer English Language Learners and come from families who fall below the federal poverty line.
I look forward to the challenge of finding ways to meet each child's individual needs while building a strong sense of community so they do not feel isolated at home.
Our district has provided learning management systems to enable me to target gaps identified through assessment and observation. However, our demographics demonstrate a greater need for more intensive instructional strategies and materials to make the connections necessary to aid in their acquisition of key skills. I need the ability to see the students' screens more clearly and be able to demonstrate concepts digitally during our instructional times.
My Project
Virtual learning is a unique opportunity to personalize instruction.
Challenges come in when the technology is not available to actually see what our students are experiencing or demonstrate what the children need to see to make the instruction accessible for them.
The larger 34-inch monitor will enable me to see more precisely the nature of what is occurring on my student's screen and help to resolve confusion or problems as they arise. The clarity will enable me to process the incoming data with more accuracy and efficiency. The current 12-inch display is simply not sufficient for this purpose. The graphics tablet will provide a medium for us to work through the process of learning much as the whiteboard or smartboard did in the traditional classroom. Can you imagine trying to teach long division with only a keyboard and a word processing document?
