Surprise Special Education Students With a Reading Corner!

My Students

My students find success in learning to read in a small group, special education setting. Their abilities range from 1st-4th grade reading levels with a mixture of Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Autism. Many of the students spend all three years of middle school in my reading class and make amazing progress on their skills by the time they move to high school. Some students even reach grade level and are dismissed from reading services!

We are very excited to have our own classroom this year!

I have been using other teacher's rooms on their off time and teaching in up to four classrooms per day.

My Project

I want to create an inviting reading corner where the students do not want to put their books down! I do not have a budget for materials, and I am using my own money to purchase books so that the students have materials at their own reading level.

My students are currently reading at their desks, and I want to create a welcoming place to read.

They will be excited for the bright area rug and comfortable video rockers. With these upgrades to our classroom, the students will look forward to independent reading and never want this time to end. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they discover these generous, fun, and welcoming gifts!
