The students that will benefit from this DonorsChoose project are 3rd graders in Tennessee. Our school has a high population of economically disadvantaged students and English language learners. Our students show up for school each day with a smile, a positive attitude, and true love for learning.
School is a source of joy, excitement, and comfort for many of our students!
They feel that they can be innovative and creative in the classroom, and this project will support the variety of learning styles and preferences in our classroom.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting for my students will support their learning by allowing them to feel comfortable and provide them voice and choice in "where" they learn in our classroom. For example, as students are working on collaborative projects (STEM, art. etc.) or independently reading, then will be able to sit or lay on the "Flex Space Comfy Classroom Carpets." We need your help in purchasing these carpets for our classroom, which has a completely laminate floor.
The "Flex Space Comfy Classroom Carpets" will be a central gathering place in our classroom.
Students will sit on the classroom for our morning meetings which help set the tone for our day and build classroom community. Direct reading instruction will take place on the carpet, including lessons on phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and read alouds. Students will have the option to stretch out or sit on the carpets during silent reading and writing times. And collaborative work can be done on the carpets, allowing students to work in a small group on various projects.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' literacy skills by providing them an area to sit during direct instruction, as well as a place to stretch out as they practice their reading skills during silent reading time. The Flex Space Comfy Classroom Carpets will also provide students with an area for collaborative work, allowing them to practice 21st century learning. By bringing the Flex Space Comfy Classroom Carpets into our classroom, students will have voice and choice in where they work, allowing them to take ownership of their learning as they are building important skills. We need your help in making project "Flex Space Comfy Classroom Carpets" a reality!
