My Students

My class consists of students with special needs. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, from intellectual and learning disabilities, to autism spectrum disorder. They come to me for individualized, one-on-one reading and math instruction. Our school was flooded from Hurricane Harvey, and we are at a temporary location until our school is repaired, which will hopefully be in time for next school year. Most students with special needs do not respond well to abrupt change, but my class has adapted well. My classroom was one of the few that had carpet, so any furniture or materials that touched it was deemed contaminated from the floodwaters, so we lost most of the furniture, supplies and materials in our class.

My Project

Now that we are back in our school, I do not have any dividers to divide up centers and work areas with. They were all thrown away after Hurricane Harvey. Most special needs students get distracted with every little noise in the room, or even by movement.

These portable room dividers will help lessen the noise and distractions in the room for all my students.

It will give them the privacy they need in order to complete their work. The dividers will also help divide the room into small group centers where the students can go and work in small groups or individually on activities.
