This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My favorite part of the day is when I greet each student before we start the day. Each Monday, I add a new step to our handshake. My students eagerly wait in line, watching attentively as the student before them greets me with the added fist bump, snap, or dance move. A sense of pride fills students who were able to master the new handshake in the first attempt, giggles for students who make mistakes and receive the opportunity to try again, and a loving nudge for students who purposefully make mistakes so they can have just a little extra personal time with Ms. W.
As students enter my classroom with smiles, they leave a world of chaos and uncertainty and embark into an environment of confidence, organization, and peace.
They understand that they are stakeholders who help to create this realm of success just as much as me.
My Project
My once smiling and laughing students can no longer be seen because their computer cameras are off! Wishing they had the engagement of in-person learning, my students are making the most of school through a computer.
Screen fatigue has finally hit my students.
As much as we incorporate screen breaks, stretch time, and activities that require them to move around, they are beginning to feel that wear of sitting all day. The provided gift cards will help my students to finish this year as strong as they started will help build resiliency, determination, and Growth Mindset in my scholars. They truly desire to be the best mathematician that they can be during this pandemic-they just need your help!
