My Students

I'm lucky to be able to co-teach as well as do small group special education classes. In my day, I get to interact with both general ed and special ed students. They are in middle school and at an interesting time in their lives for identity development. Many of my students need support with their social and emotional development before we are able to address academic needs. Therefore, several students are behind grade level and need extra motivation to get caught up.

My Project

I am looking to attend the EMPOWER Conference in August of 2019 with an amazing co-worker of mine. I have been in education for 10+ years and see daily the challenges that cause teacher burn-out leading to our current teacher shortage crisis. As a Special Education teacher in an urban district, these challenges can be ten-fold. I want to continue being motivated through the education leaders presenting at this conference in order to stay energized for this vital work. The keynote speakers are known for the work that they do, focusing on empowering teacher and student voice within urban education.
