This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kids (students) love to learn. They are happy to be at school. The kids have come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
They all live in a neighborhood that is considered high crime and low income.
My students will spend 174 days in our classroom. It will become their second home. Seven hours each day is a long time for a 5-year-old, but not when you're having fun. I want our home to be comfortable and be filled with wonderful memories.
My Project
Reading and writing is a skill used daily. Having a solid foundation in these skills will make it easy for one to communicate and express themselves. It also makes learning concepts in other classes easier.
After attending a reading conference in Louisville, KY, I learned how important it is to have students manipulate the magnetic letters.
They are used for learning learning letter identification, phonetic sounds, spelling and letter formation. Using the iPads will allow students to develop fine motor and reading skills. They can use the notes app to write. They can use other apps to listen to stories, practice reading and other language skills.
Not having an aide in my classroom, the iPads are a great option. I can set up activities beforehand and students can work together to complete activities.
