My Students
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
In times where electronics are increasingly encroaching on students' lives outside the classroom, they also love to read! Last year, my students borrowed over 500 books from my classroom library.
My Project
It is crucial for students to have easy access to contemporary independent reading material by authors from a range of different backgrounds. Reading helps students think critically and improves reading comprehension skills, which is beneficial in across all curriculum areas. And the benefits of independent reading do not end in the classroom. Students take the skills they have honed through reading into adulthood and, in turn, into the workforce and society. Additionally, recent studies in a variety of disciplines have linked the reading of fiction specifically with measurable increases in empathy.
